Abstract
Acute pain management is a complex process that requires nurses to rethink current practices. This paper details barriers confronting nurses as they attempt to provide effective, acute pain management. An exploration of these barriers reveals the misconceptions commonly associated with opioid analgesic use and factors effecting pain assessment.
