Working with youth: Reflections on a community practicum

Abstract

This paper was part of my third-year Bachelor of Nursing Degree assessment for the community health module. I hope that the insights from my practicum in the drug and alcohol service will engender a deeper sensitivity and militate against judgement or directive nursing care in my future nursing practice. Reflections frorm my community practicum and theoretical constructs are used in this paper to focus on the notions of deviance, labeling, role-taking, and their contribution to the formation of an individual's identity.
