Abstract

Despite numerous studies and re-education strategies spanning two decades, inadequate relief of pain remains a significant problem for both clients and nurses.

This paper explores the literature on the extent of the problem and suggests that societal attitudes about narcotic drugs are a major contributing factor to this problem. Encouraging reflective practice is one of the strategies suggested to address the situation.
