We approach the 20th volume of Contemporary Nurse (CNJ) with an updated cover design retaining, of course, CNJ's logo and hallmark purple and green of the first. In response to editors' and reviewers' comments, Advances in Contemporary Nursing (ACN) special issue colours will be the reverse of regular CNJ issue colours. We trust that you will like them and invite your comments.

Full text of Contemporary Nurse volumes 10 (2001) to 18 (2005) is now available online from www.Atypon-link.com for a small surcharge to print subscribers. Abstracts on contemporarynurse.com are linked to full text PDFs on Atypon-link.com. The National Library of Medicine's Medline, CINAHL and AMI continue to index and abstract Contemporary Nurse. To recover investment in CNJ online through Atypon-link.com, we are examining the cost-effectiveness of CNJ's availability on database aggregators such as Meditext.

With the 2005/06 subscription cycle, Contemporary Nurse (CNJ) gratefully acknowledges expert peer reviewers, authors and editors, and subscribers who sustained the growth of the journal through 2004/05. We also acknowledge eContent suppliers and staff for their high quality contributions to the journal. CNJ published 612 pages of current nursing research, clinical practice and methods articles, reviews and commentary. A special issue on 'Child & Family Health Care' guest edited by Philip Darbyshire and Debra Jackson continued CNJ's Advances in Contemporary Nursing (ACN) series established in 2003 with 'Transcultural Nursing', edited by John Daly and Debra Jackson.

In 2005/06 CNJ welcomes new institutional subscribers in Ireland, Wales, England, Canada, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Fiji and New Zealand. We thank all renewing subscribers in those countries, the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, The Philippines and Malaysia as well as CNJ's original base in Australia. Volumes 19-21 of Contemporary Nurse will publish (3 volumes in 6 issues of about 140 pages) - two volumes of regular feature and clinical articles and one volume comprising two special issues of Advances in Contemporary Nursing: 'Mental Health Nursing', guest edited by Nicholas Procter and Barbara Wolfe; and 'Interpersonal Violence', guest edited by Anne McMurray and Debra Jackson. Special issues have become a very significant part of Contemporary Nurse. We invite submissions for future ACN topics.

In the pages of this double issue of Contemporary Nurse you will notice announcements for future special issues in the Advances in Contemporary Nursing series. Over 2005/06 we shall consult you on whether you would like to receive these special issues as an independent CNJ series in 2006/07, or continue them as part of your regular CNJ subscription (volumes 22-25).

We are proud to announce the appearance of eContent's first distinct book in September 2005: 'In Our Own Right: Black Australian Nurses' Stories', edited by Sally Goold (CATSIN) ISBN 978-0-975742-22-8. A copy will be mailed to every Contemporary Nurse subscriber as a supplement to volume 19 (July/August 2005). As 1 September 2005 marks the beginning of my 30th year in international scholarly and professional publishing, I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate it.

Thank you for your continued support.
