Studying women nurse academics: Exposing workplace violence in Australia

Abstract
This article is the first in a two part series on research investigating the lived experiences of women nurse academics in Australia. This is part of a larger research study involving participants from Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The aim of this research was to investigate the participants' professional experiences and progression within their respective school of nursing and university. This article focuses on the literature on workplace violence and research methodology. The importance of storytelling and the relationship between emotional safety and sensitive disclosures is also addressed.
