Article Text

Welcome to the first of six, bimonthly, issues of Contemporary Nurse in 2002. As promised, articles from this issue carry 'Received' and 'Accepted' dates to ensure transparency of the peer review process. Our aim is to ensure that average times between submission and publication do not exceed four months in 2002. We thank our referees and authors for prompt handling of reviews and revisions to help us attain that goal.

In this issue we see an interesting mix of feature articles, the appearance of articles in new sections devoted to Literature Reviews and Methods, Editorial Board members have joined us from Sweden and Malaysia, and the Conference calendar has been updated. We are now lobbying for inclusion of Contemporary Nurse in ISI's Current Contents/Social Sciences.

With the establishment of sections devoted to Literature Reviews and Methods Articles, we are appointing dedicated editors to develop their content for publication in each issue of Contemporary Nurse.

With this issue we are pleased to announce the appointment of the section editor for Methodology, AProf Lynne Giddings from Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

Author guidelines have been adjusted accordingly in this issue. Please feel free to contact Lynne at lynne.giddings@aut.ac.nz if you are interested in reworking or submitting a piece to this new section.

The Literature Reviews Editor will be announced in a later issue of Contemporary Nurse volume 12.

New books continue to arrive for review. If you have recently published a book, read a book or had a book recommended, please tell the publisher to send it directly to AProf Nicholas Procter at the University of South Australia (City Campus). Book reviews are reproduced in full text on www.contemporarynurse.com, often in advance of publication. Nicholas invites any reader interested in reviewing to contact him with their address and a list of preferred areas: nicholas.procter@unisa.edu.au

Your current subscription to Contemporary Nurse to Contemporary Nurse expires with volume 12/3 (June 2002). With the next issue of Contemporary Nurse (volume 12/2 - April 2002), we shall be including an invoice for the financial year July 2002 - June 2003. This will cover volumes 13 & 14 of the journal (2 volumes in 6 issues of approx 100 pages per issue). We are pleased to inform you that prices have been held at 2001 levels.

Thank you for your continued interest, involvement and support for Contemporary Nurse.
