Abstract

Papua New Guinea has started to change from a hospital based general nurse training to a competency based, university linked, diploma of nursing training program.

This paper looks at the development of nurse education in Papua New Guinea. It also briefly outlines the present and proposed courses. The expected benefits and anticipated problems are then discussed and the paper ends with challenges being faced by those involved in nurse education.
