Abstract
This issue of Contemporary Nurse is the first in the tenth year and tenth volume of the journal. It represents the culmination of effort of a wide representation of the nursing community through the Contemporary Nurse Editorial Board members, authors, students and reviewers, who have given generously of their time towards its development. Contemporary Nurse has expanded its Editorial Board, has an unprecedented number of manuscripts under review from many institutions in the region-from academics, practitioners and students-and is well positioned to meet the electronic publishing challenges of the new millennium.
As incoming Publisher of Contemporary Nurse, I would like to welcome and thank the Editorial Board, the reviewers and author teams who have contributed to the journal's success since its acquisition from Pearson Professional (Churchill Livingstone) in 1997 by John Libbey & Company. My responsibility then as Publishing Director at John Libbey & Company was to rejuvenate the journal, to bring its publication back on schedule, and to expand its editorial focus to encompass the educational needs and interests of nursing teachers, researchers, practitioners and students in the Asia Pacific region. The current Editorial Board, reviewers, authors and breadth of subject matter reflect that mission.
With Volume 10, we are poised to move Contemporary Nurse from quarterly to bimonthly to shorten the time taken from manuscript receipt to publication. We demonstrate our commitment to regional issues through articles from regional members. We are positioned to add the journal to the online medium-the Internet. We have a new publishing team comprised of Robyn Lowe (co-ordinating manuscript reviews and subscribe to Contemporary Nurses), Karen Enkelaar (co-ordinating editorial, production and printing matters) and myself (co-ordinating acquisition, editorial direction, marketing and management).
We trust that you will be pleased with the appearance and content of this and future issues with the new team, and thank you for your continuing support for Contemporary Nurse. We continue to implement the results of the customer survey we conducted in 1998 and shall conduct a follow up this year. In the meantime, please feel free to telephone, e-mail or write to me with any suggestions you might have to improve Contemporary Nurse to meet your teaching, research, educational or nursing community needs.
